Author : D. Appleton
Detail : “Collector’s item, landmark within the history of the yank guide, pic of North yank within the decennium – Appleton’s enchiridion warrants a novel place on the `must buy’ booklist of any human, railway enthusiast, historiographer or americanaphile. Originally made because the railway networks of the us of America and North American nation were stretching across the huge continent, and as business by rail became a heavy recreation for the burgeoning middle categories, it absolutely was the primary traveler guide specifically organized around railway journeys, and to the current day offers a glimpse through the carriage window of a continent lost to history. this is {often|this can be} a facsimile of the particular book – often observed as ‘Appleton’s Guide’ – that galvanized the nice yank Railroad Journeys tv series with archangel Portillo, probably the sole living example of the 1879 edition. it’s a definite copy with a removable belly-band.”

Detail - A comprehensive approach focused on sustainable change Asset Building and Community Development, Fourth Edition examines the promise and limits of community development by showing students and practitioners how asset-based developments can improve the sustainability and quality of life. Authors Gary Paul Green and Anna Haines provide an engaging, thought-provoking, and comprehensive approach to asset building by focusing on the role of different forms of community capital in the development process. Updated throughout, this edition explores how communities are building on their key assets—physical, human, social, financial, environmental, political, and cultural capital— to generate positive change. With a focus on community outcomes, the authors illustrate how development controlled by community-based organizations provides a better match between assets and the needs of the community.

Detail - From the perspective of the investigator, Graves' disease is a fascinating disorder with unique features and opportunities for study. The discovery in 1956 that Graves' disease was caused by a humoral factor, later shown to be an antibody to the TSH receptor, was a triumph for modern investigative medicine. Rapid progress is now being made in (i) understanding the molecular interaction between autoantibodies and the TSH receptor, (ii) identifying the genes that contribute to the predisposition to disease, (iii) developing an animal model of Graves' disease, and (iv) identifying the long-sought orbital antigen in ophthalmopathy. From the clinical standpoint, although Graves' disease is eminently treatable, there is no definitive cure. None of the therapeutic options are ideal. It is hoped that rapid progress in understanding the pathogenesis of the disease will lead to the ultimate goal of some form of immunotherapy that will make antithyroid drugs, radioiodine and thyroidectomy obsolete. The chapters in Graves' Disease: Pathogenesis and Treatment represent the viewpoints of many prominent clinicians and investigators working in the field. The editors are grateful for their contributions which cover an unusually comprehensive compendium of subjects relating to the disease.
