Detail - Religious terrorism has become the scourge of the modern world. What causes a person to kill innocent strangers in the name of religion? As both a clinical psychologist and an authority on comparative religion, James W. Jones is uniquely qualified to address this increasingly urgent question. Research on the psychology of violence shows that several factors work to make ordinary people turn "evil." These include feelings of humiliation or shame, a tendency to see the world in black and white, and demonization or dehumanization of other people. Authoritarian religion or "fundamentalism," Jones shows, is a particularly rich source of such ideas and feelings, which he finds throughout the writings of Islamic jihadists, such as the 9/11 conspirators. Jones goes on to apply this model to two very different religious groups that have engaged in violence: Aum Shinrikyo, the Buddhist splinter group behind the sarin gas attacks in the Tokyo subway system, and members of the extreme religious right in the U.S. who have advocated and committed violence against abortion providers. Jones notes that not every adherent of an authoritarian group will turn to violence, and he shows how theories of personality development can explain why certain individuals are easily recruited to perform terrorist acts.

Detail - John McConnell Jr. was the famed founder and visionary of Earth Day. McConnell's vision was one of creating a day of remembrance, solitude, and action to restore the broken human relationship to the land. Little acknowledged are McConnell's religious convictions or background. McConnell grew up in a Pentecostal home. In fact, McConnell's parents were both founding charter members of the Assemblies of God in 1914. His own grandfather had an even greater connection to the origins of Pentecostalism by being a personal participant at the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. Earth Day, thus, began with strong religious convictions. McConnell, seeing the ecological demise through his religious background, envisioned a day where Christians could "show the power of prayer, the validity of their charity, and their practical concern for Earth's life and people." In the spirit of McConnell, today's Pentecostal and Charismatic theology has something to say about the earth. Blood Cries Out is a unique contribution by Pentecostal and Charismatic theologians and practitioners to the global conversation concerning ecological degradation, climate change, and ecological justice.

Detail - More than forty years ago, Ollie Chandler was only eighteen years old when he was executed on October 18, 1963. In this memoir, Ollie's brother and author W.C. Chandler narrates Ollie's short life story that includes racial discrimination, a miscarriage of justice, and his untimely death. Ollie was one of the fourteen children of John and Leatha Chandler who lived in the rural community of Clyattville, Georgia. Life was not easy for a black family living in the south. And for Ollie, life was even more difficult. Mentally challenged, he wasn't able to finish school. But at age seventeen, Ollie was arrested for a murder he said he didn't commit. His Blood Cries Out for Justice tells the rest of Ollie's story from his time in jail to his trial by an all-white jury and his subsequent death. A moving tribute, His Blood Cries Out for Justice pays homage to this young life that was cut short. It reckons with history while also celebrating one family's deep love and that family's attempt to make sense of a tragedy.

Detail - Our theology does not exist in a vacuum but must relate to the world we inhabit and must influence our moral and ethical actions. This is especially true when discussing theology of "the land" in the context of a violent territorial conflict. The Holy Land has seen so much bloodshed that the earth itself is crying out to God. The chapters presented in this book form a unique collection of voices speaking from different perspectives on the issue of the theology of the land. These voices include Messianic Jewish and Palestinian Christian theologians and scholars who live in the Holy Land, as well as others from around the world. The various chapters reflect a wide spectrum of opinion and reveal how much disagreement still exists among followers of Christ. However, the dialogue generated by having these opposing voices side by side, speaking to each other rather than past each other, is encouraging. This book is both challenging and inspirational, and contributes in an innovative way to this important discussion.

Detail - Why is anti-Semitism on the rise in the UK? First of all, it is nothing new. In fact, anti-Semitism has a very long history on these islands. It started way back in the book of Exodus, in the freeing of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt. This anti-Semitism carried on right through the centuries in one form or another. It also goes right back to the early days of the Christian church. "Replacement Theology" started in the first century AD, and it has been used to justify the killing of many millions of Jewish people. I also want to show you what can happen when you misread the Bible and do not check on what you are being taught. In recent church history, we have seen what a lot of this wrong teaching has produced---The Holocaust of the Second World War. If we do not learn from the mistakes of the past, we will only repeat them again and again. That has been proved many times over the centuries. Above all, I want to show you what can happen if we do not seek to understand or have compassion towards our Jewish brothers and sisters. Walk with me through a concise history of how we have gotten to this current state of anti-Semitism in the UK...and what we can do about it in our current day. Are you ready to change your life? Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Detail - Drama for the Soul is a compilation of plays by playwright Lisa Johnson and is the author’s first published work. As the director of her church’s drama ministry, her talents are greatly utilized. This collection consists of plays and vignettes on the subjects of the resurrection, Christmas, and African-American pioneers. Some of the sketches also serve as teaching tools or infomercials for different areas of ministry. The collection is well-suited for churches desiring to include drama in their services, school productions, or just as a great read. Mrs. Johnson writes about real-life situations that everyone can relate to, whether it is traumatic, humorous, or simply a life lesson. In her play, A Resurrected Life, a young woman experiences devastating trauma that causes her to withdraw from society and shut down. But her Aunt Callie, a feisty, devout Christian and fervent prayer warrior, refuses to let her niece go out like that. The events that take place will draw you in and send you on an emotional roller coaster! Several of the plays make use of videos as a part of the storytelling but can also be adapted for the stage. Drama for the Soul is truly that, as it inspires and gives hope to all who read it!
