Detail - When scientists discover an eyewitness's memoir and film footage of the creation and subsequent history of Earth, an opportunity presents for humans to answer the most baffling questions they have confronted. The story is told in six vignettes of excerpted material from the chronicler, a space traveler with an extended lifespan from a distant galaxy who finds herself stranded here, unable to return home. During a long walk through storms and vast spans of slow time, we witness this precarious, initially lifeless landscape fill with primitive life-forms that evolve, experience the daily routines of a group of prehumans, and behold the emergence of humans and their ensuing joyous and miserable history, with its discoveries and achievements and search for the ?right way to live.? In the painting of this comprehensive portrait of the entire history of Earth, filled with an abundance of pain and kindness, we come to an awareness of an unmistakable oneness which links all that ever existed. With Big History as backdrop and ethics the foundation, this is an inspirational tale, often humorous, about the quest to find what it means to live a good life as we ascertain our fragile place in the universe.

Detail - During the years spent as a dental student and while practising as a dentist, it is important to be able to assess causes of disease and to determine effective methods of detection, prevention and treatment. Throughout their careers, dentists need to keep abreast of new developments and techniques. There is, however, an abundance of published research and it can be difficult for the student or practising dentist to be able to identify and, more importantly, interpret articles that would be useful. This book aims to provide an introduction to understanding and interpreting research articles. This book introduces the basic epidemiological and statistical aspects of research. Because the aim is for dentists to be able to read scientific articles, all the topics and concepts covered are based entirely on published papers from journals in dentistry, and the understanding of numerical concepts is achieved through building on particular examples.

Detail - This collaborative work provides a detailed snapshot of child oral health in Australia. In doing so, it describes the levels of dental caries and its components, dental fluorosis and other oral health conditions and how they vary by social characteristics. It also describes protective factors such as toothbrushing, the use of fluoridated toothpastes and making dental visits. The 2012–14 National Child Oral Health Study (NCOHS) was a cross-sectional study of the child population aged 5 to 14 years in Australia. A total of 24,664 children from 841 participating schools completed the study. The study sample was selected in a complex multistage, stratified sampling design. Sophisticated weighting procedure was employed to adjust for variations in probabilities of selection and response rates. Therefore, this report presents estimates as representative of child oral health in Australia. Information was collected via a parental questionnaire and a detailed dental examination by trained dental professionals.
